My first two patterns for 2015 have been entered into Spoonflower’s weekly contest, which is a wonderful way for me to add patterns in the New Year. Both of these patterns involve hand drawn elements and I could not be happier to be drawing on a daily basis again. These can be found in my Spoonflower shop. In the coming year you can look here for new patterns as well as in my store which is coming soon!
The first pattern came to me as an idea as I was settling in to go to sleep. I have always found trouble quieting my creative mind. I never wrote it down though. I used to keep a notebook by my bed, just so that I could write everything down and go to sleep, but I didn’t and so the idea of penguins, winter and valentine’s day were all dancing around my head, until I finally sat down to scan my drawings into the computer and this was the result. Everything I do starts from a drawing…and coffee. I do LOVE my coffee!
My second pattern for Spoonflower this week is Sydney Australia. The theme is Australian cities, and I chose Sydney for the chance to sketch the beautiful Sydney Opera House. I only included a few sketches, but this is a subject that I want to explore a little more. A loooong flight may prevent me from ever venturing there, so I will have to travel with the internet for now. I also could not let the chance go by without sketching some kangaroos. The more patterns I put together the more I love the process. I am looking forward to developing my style, and finding more inspiration in the world around me and wonderful new designers and artists that I am finding every day!
